The "E" transect of the BMP quarter between E7 and E8 is the location for one of the recharge sites. This area is instrumented with soil solution samplers, ground water observation wells, and a datalogger to measure and record hourly precipitation and soil moisture.
Ponding of this nature is typical of many small depressions on the BMP field. In this situation, snowmelt runoff is collected in the small depression until the soil thaws, at which time the ponded water infiltrates rapidly. Heavy rains and irrigations are also responsible for ponding in these areas.
