Zone Delineation Methods

Two methods were used to delineate nitrogen management zones. One was base on an aerial photo of the bare soil. The other method evolved throughout the project, using layers of data in different ways.

1. Zone delineation (V1) based on visual interpretation of soil color differences.

2a. Evolving zone methodologies using multiple data layers. Ward's Cluster Analysis used in 2002.

2b. Evolving zone methodologies using multiple data layers. Summation of standardized data used in 2003-2004.

An aerial photo of bare soil shows areas with different properties; from elevation to chemistry.

Yield goal was 11.8 Mg ha-1 for all zones in V1 and uniform (U) treatment plots.
