NDSU Dept. of Soil Science
According to The New York Public Library Desk Reference, 1989 ed, the
patron Saint of farmers is "Isadore the Farmer". Lives of Saints calls the same Saint "Isadore the Husbandman". Saint day is either May 15 (his death date), or Oct 25 (celebrated feast day in the U.S.). Isadore was a poor spanish farmer who did a lot for other poor people, had angels help him plow (with white oxen no less), and died a peaceful death. Want to know more? Check Lives of the Saints, v.2, p. 323+. (REF BX4654 B8). A special thank-you to Kathie Richardson for the research on patron saints.

Well, we were looking for a patron saint for soil scientists. St. Isadore was about as close as we could get.
