Soil
of the year – Each year
one of the soil series with a typical pedon located in North
Dakota is highlighted.
In the past brochures describing this soil were circulated
to schools and other public institutions. Last year a 5 ft
X 3 ft poster was constructed, copied, and laminated for
distribution.
Soil pit – The PSCAND and NRCS sponsored
a soils display featuring a walk-in pit at the annual Big
Iron farm show in Fargo. This event draws an average of
60,000 people over a three-day period.
Online North Dakota soils – The
PSCAND has provide support for the development of an online
soils slide database. Dr. David Hopkins from the Soil Science
Dept., NDSU has been assembling the massive database of
soils photos accrued over many years of soil survey work
in North Dakota. The database links morphologic descriptions,
chemical data, and physical data with photos of soil profiles
and landscapes.
